Edgeware is initially launched as a solochain, where EDG is used as the bonding and reward token for validators. However, when Edgeware becomes a Polkadot parachain, DOTs are used for shared security and inter-parachain communication. During this time, Edgeware will not have validators for the state of finality, but rather validation will happen through the Polkadot relaychain's validator pool. EDG will still be used for gas fees, spam prevention, and bonding for on-chain activities such as governance. In the future, the network may vote to make Edgeware a relay chain, where EDG may be used to provide security for child parachains.
